Why Roller Blinds Are Better Than Curtains

Décor choices are a personal choice and what suits one person may of course not be the personal taste of another. There are many window treatments options out there, but it often comes down to roller blinds versus curtains for many home owners.

Whilst there are pros and cons to both, there are some great reasons to consider roller blinds over traditional choices – they are in many ways superior and can save homeowners are great deal of time and money.

If you’re looking at buying window treatments read on to find out more about why it might be time to throw away the curtains.

Light Control

If you want to have control over how much light you let into a room then roller blinds are without a doubt the way to go. Similar to curtains, you can them in block-out fabrics and potentially block out all the light in a room if you want to.

Due to the fact that you can roll them up and down vertically you also get a fair bit of control over how much light to want to let into the room.

Curtains don’t tend to afford you the same amount of privacy or control as you aren’t able to block the view of the room when you are opening or partially opening them.

Maintenance

Roller blinds tend to be easier to clean and maintain then curtains. They are far easier to spot clean and usually only require a quick wipe down for general maintenance, whilst your household drapes will probably require speciality cleaning – heavier fabrics can often absorb and hold smells too.

It is far easier for curtains to become moth-eaten, stained or mouldy in comparison to other window treatments and they can be costly to replace.

Roller blinds are without a doubt the much easier and less expensive choice when it comes to maintenance.

Versatility

Due to the fact that curtains can often suffer from mould, stains or water damage they are not often a great choice for bathrooms or kitchens. Depending on the fabric they can also be a poor choice for windows that get a lot of direct sunlight, as the fabric can fade.

Roller blinds are often found in every room of the house and are suitable for every environment. There are endless fabric and colour options now on the market, so it’s possible to choose the right window dressings for every room.

If you want your window dressings to match and look consistent throughout your home then curtains may not be the optimal choice.

Cost

As far as cost goes, roller blinds are the hands down winner. Not only are they relatively inexpensive compared to most curtain options, but they also have a lower cost for maintenance over their lifespan.

Whilst there are inexpensive and luxury options available for both window treatments, on average you can expect to pay less when you opt out of purchasing curtains.

Sleek look

This is a point of personal preference, as of course every design space calls for different window treatments but the look in vogue recently has increasingly been sleek, pared back design and simple, minimalist rooms.

If you’re going for a clean vibe and don’t want you window treatments to be too intrusive on your space then curtains are not the best choice. Whilst they can be very versatile when it comes to fabric options and styles, curtains tend to be a statement piece and draw the eye.

If you don’t want your window treatments to encroach too much on your room, then curtains are probably not the way to go.
